Why I celebrated 100 weddings

To be fair, the real question is “why wouldn’t I celebrate 100 weddings”? For me, It’s a pretty exciting milestone in and of itself, but there’s a bit more to it, so allow me to elaborate.

You see, as a small biz, (specifically a small ‘solo’ biz) slash literally the ONLY employee at Love by Lara) I often find myself celebrating my wins in solitude. A reel goes viral on instagram? *pats self on back* receives the worlds loveliest feedback from a guest post ceremony? Guess I’ll tuck that compliment in the bank for a rainy day! It sure would be nice to turn up to ‘work’ (a wedding) and share in the trials and tribulations of celebrant life with my fellow celebrant pals, but for obvious reasons, it doesn’t really work that way, so I rely on group chats, Facebook groups and the occasional cocktail.

SO, when the 7th January 2023 rolled around and I married my 100th couple, you can bet your bottom dollar this was gonna be a BIG DEAL.

Plans were hatched for a boujee rooftop lunch at MAYA Mexican in Fortitude Valley with five of my closest girlfriends. We ate our bodyweight in Guacamole and downed Frozen Margs before indulging in a gloriously over the top pink ‘Happy 100’ cake by @lovesickbakery.

Cocktails continued at Sixes and Sevens on James Street before retiring to my living room to swap cocktails for cups of tea. In bed by 9pm? My kinda celebration!

In all seriousness, though, I feel truly blessed to have now told over 100 couples stories. How does one get to talk about love, drink champagne, eat the odd canapé here and there, be surrounded by pretty flowers and manage to call it work? It’s beyond me, but I’m sure as hell grateful that I get to do it.
